Introducing WebFT8.com: FT8 Right in Your Browser
Amateur radio operators no longer need a full desktop installation of WSJT-X just to make a few FT8 contacts. WebFT8 (available at WebFT8.com) is a modern, standalone web application that lets you decode and encode FT8 weak-signal digital mode communications directly inside a standard web browser.
Built specifically for hams, WebFT8 combines a high-performance WebAudio waterfall, client-side WebAssembly signal processing, rig control via the Web Serial API, and convenient cloud logging—all without complex software installs. It is currently in early-release beta and designed for portable operations, field days, and everyday shack convenience.
What Makes WebFT8 Different?
WebFT8 runs entirely in the browser. There is no Java runtime, no large desktop application to install or update, and no need for virtual audio cables in many setups. Simply open the site, log in with your amateur radio credentials, grant audio permissions, and start operating.

Modern WebAssembly modules process the standard 15-second FT8 time slots instantly right in your browser. Decoding happens locally on your device for speed and privacy.
Rig CAT Control via Web Serial
Connect your transceiver directly through the browser’s Web Serial API. Monitor frequency, switch bands, and manage PTT without extra software or drivers (supported on Chromium-based browsers).
A live map plots your grid and every logged contact, draws the great-circle paths, and shows distance in miles or kilometers. Handy for seeing where your signals are landing.
Automated Sequencing & Queue Management
Smart multi-station QSO state handling automatically manages the flow of contacts. A waiting queue helps you handle multiple incoming callers efficiently—especially useful during busy periods or pile-ups.
Seamless Logbook & QRZ Integration
Built-in local storage keeps a running logbook. Export contacts in ADIF format, and use the secure backend proxy to upload QSOs directly to QRZ.com.
System Requirements & Setup
- Browsers: Chromium-based (Google Chrome, Microsoft Edge, or Opera) on HTTPS or localhost for full Web Serial CAT support and audio permissions.
- Audio: Connect your transceiver’s audio input and ouput to your computer or USB sound card and grant the necessary audio device permissions when prompted.
- Time Sync: FT8 requires precise UTC timing (ideally within ±200 ms). Use the built-in UTC sync tool to verify your system clock.
Quick Start Guide
- Visit WebFT8.com and log in with your amateur radio operator credentials (or register if you don’t have an account yet).
- Grant audio device permissions and select your transceiver audio input and output devices.
- Connect your radio via Web Serial for CAT rig control allowing WebFT8 to control PTT and frequency switching.
- Tune to your desired band and click Start RX.
